Cartoonists Show Their Stars and Stripes

Cartoonists Show Their Stars and Stripes

The Fourth of July is the most obvious time for reflection on what it is to be American today. And just in time for this year's U.S. anniversary, the country's editorial pages are ablaze with timely, patriotic debates. It's a complex time to be an American: the bald eagle is free from the oppressive shackles of endangered species status, but citizens across our great land are being denied their constitutional right to bear arms full of celebratory explosives. With the nation--and cartoonists--so politically divided and hot to debate, this crop of tongue-in-cheek but starred-and-striped cartoons stand out.
