Thoughts About The Flotilla

Thoughts About the Flotilla

By Yaakov Kirschen

The anti-Israeli flotilla "activists" are upset! They're mad and they're getting madder! The flotilla is, of course, the floating version of the "Annual Israel Apartheid Week Operation to Defame and Delegitimize Israel." The defamers of Israel have enjoyed great success on campuses, but were surprised by a series of disappointments in this year's nautical event.First they complained about the non-cooperation of the Turkish authorities and now, docked In a Greek port, they've complained about sabotage to their ships, foot-dragging by Greek authorities and, most recently, they've been outraged by a Greek ban on Gaza-bound vessels leaving port. The angry activists are not shy about pointing an accusatory finger at the powerful force behind it all. Turns out it's all the work of Israel's legendary spy agency, the Mossad.

Yes, the "We love Gaza- Israel is Bad" flotilla boat people are having some problems, and Israel stands in the dock, accused of yet another "crime." Israel is using her secret powers to be unfair to her enemies. This is not a new charge. Just last year, the Iranian "Program to Develop a Nuclear Bomb so We Can Wipe Israel off the Map" was hit by a mysterious computer virus. It was a "worm" called Stuxnet. The Iranians are now trying to fight off a second targeted computer attack by a new virus called "Stars." The Islamist government of Iran blames both attacks on Israel, and, presumably, on the Mossad.

So, now in 2011, the sea-faring branch of the "Campaign to Delegitimize the Jewish State" has been hit by a strange confluence of mysterious events which include the outbreak of the Greek anti-austerity riots, the discovery of cracks in a propeller of one of the flotilla boats, the effect on the Turkish government of the heating up of the Syrian-Turkish border, and the incredible slowness of Greek bureaucracy. And they blame it all on Israel.

And, as a slight diversion, but staying within the warm waters of the Middle East, there's a bizarre news item being reported from Egypt's fashionable resort at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. The Red Sea waters off the tourist beaches of Sharm el-Sheikh are now, it is said, shark-infested. It is also being said that the sharks have been sent in by Israel's Mossad spy agency. And the Egyptians are the ones saying it.

But the whacko Mossad shark story is not nearly as wild as one coming out of Gaza. Yes, the very same Gaza that the flotilla is focused on. A Hamas police spokesman has announced that aphrodisiac-laced chewing gum was being introduced into the Gaza strip by "The Zionist intelligence services" to corrupt Gaza's youth. Zionist intelligence services? Yes! It's the all-powerful Israeli Mossad again.

There's a temptation to joke about these loony allegations. It's easy. What's difficult is to remember that the depiction of the Jew as an all-powerful, invisible controlling force is at the very core of anti-Semitism. You can't hate Jews if you think of them as helpless victims of the Nazis. But you can hate them, if you think of the Jews as being the Nazis! And getting the world to think of Israel as a Nazi state would appear to be one of the main goals of the flotilla operation. Its other goal is to help blind the world to the geopolitical realities of the region.

Just a few years ago the world spoke of the Arab/Israeli conflict. But in that simple phrase was recognition of the reality. The lone Jewish state was surrounded and opposed by 21 hostile Arab states. The Arab/Israeli conflict needed a new name. So it's all now been repackaged as the Israel/Palestine conflict. And the reality of a unified anti-Israel Muslim world has been hidden from view or discussion. And central to the selling of that Israel/Palestine image are the flotilla showboaters.
