Political Reporters are Still Ignoring Clinton

By Rick Jensen

Hiding behind the shiny objects fascinating so-called journalists this week, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have actually spoken of policies that could affect your life much more than which candidate started the "birther" movement.

Yes, these issues are even more important than CNN's Jake Tapper engaging in lies of omission to promote Clinton as the "reasonable" candidate who didn't say the word "bombing" to describe the New York attack last weekend, when the real truth is that she did.

Are you even aware that both Trump and Hillary have released outlines of their economic plans?

Trump calls for a tax amnesty on the estimated $2.5 trillion U.S. corporations hold overseas. The goal is to encourage these companies to repatriate these trillions to put into the U.S. economy.

Clinton supports amnesty for more illegal immigrants.

Clinton proposes raising taxes on high-income taxpayers, threatening companies leaving the U.S. with an exit tax, repealing fossil fuel tax incentives, and does not oppose a middle class payroll tax increase. Most of the increases would hit the top 1 percent, meaning people earning more than $730,000 a year.

She proposes that money would be enough to pay for free college for everyone who isn't rich.

Would it?

The Government Accounting Office's latest report in 2014 states four-year public colleges and universities banked $58 billion in tuition. Add to that about $30 billion in government subsidies for a total of about $78 billion.

Economists estimate Hillary's tax increases would bring in an extra $50 billion to $100 billion dollars a year.

So, considering the most generous of revenue estimates, it is possible to create this great transfer of wealth, but we should remember that one of the prime causes of tuition increases of 40 percent since 2006 is government interference in the market for higher education, namely government-backed student loans.

With so much government money coming in, colleges and universities raised tuitions dramatically... because they could.

This historical record indicates another $100 billion a year for inflation-prone $78 billion in today's dollars will not be enough for long.

Trump wants to eliminate the inheritance tax, or "death tax."Hillary wants to increase it.

Trump offers a child care tax that would cover the average cost of daycare in your state.

It's a very real problem for millions of Americans.

Hillary agrees,

She proposes no family should spend more than ten percent of their gross income on child daycare.

So, according to Trump's plan, a family making $90,000 each year in Illinois would get a tax credit of about $12,697 for a school age child's daycare.

According to Clinton's plan, the same family would pay $9,000.

Your mileage may vary.

The tax credit is self-explanatory.How would Hillary's plan be funded?

She calls for subsidies and tax credits, but no details yet. Still, her plan would reportedly cost about $200 billion and she already dipped the bucket deeply into the wells behind America's largest mansions.

If that doesn't sound good enough for you, vote for Green Party candidate Jill Stein. She'll gladly give you universal child care. She just needs to find $45 billion a year for it.

Seriously, daycare costs have skyrocketed over the past couple of decades,so much so that annual daycare costs more than public college annual tuition in many states.

Notably, no one is proposing reducing taxes on income, fuels and life necessities enough to allow one parent to stay home and raise the kids.

That must be some ancient, troglodyte notion.

Trump wants a 35 percent tariff on Mexican goods and a 45 percent tariff on Chinese goods.Hillary gets this one right, citing economists and historians using the phrase, "trade war."

Mexico is the second largest U.S. exporter, spending over $260 billion with us in 2015. If Trump makes it unprofitable to do business with the U.S., he'll have built virtual walls with Mexico and China.

There's more, but I hear reporters clamoring around Hillary saying Trump is providing ISIS recruitment audio and someone is translating an Al Qaeda video featuring Bill "Fornicator" Clinton.

Instead of engaging in propaganda, perhaps national reporters might consider committing journalism occasionally.
